Halkides produces all images using an archival Giclée process, with the print mounted on an acid-free substrate.
For 20×24 prints mounted on 30×42 and smaller, an 8ply, 100% archival rag board (Westminster®) with a matching 4-ply over-matte, signed by the artist. For larger than 20×24″ prints, the substrate is acid-free Gatorboard® ready for framing and is borderless and signed by the artist.
All Giclées prints are protected by applying 2 coats of Print Shield® which is water resistant and also a UV protectant. It will protect the image surface to a degree, but care should be taken as it by no means protects as well as glass or plexiglass, and on prints small enough it is recommended that glass or plexiglass be used when framing.
On prints larger than 20×24 mounted on 30×42, glass and plexiglass may be too heavy or costly, and Halkides offers a special UV, non-reflective laminate that is applied using a heat process and provides greater protection to the print surface and allows framing without glass or plexiglass at an additional cost regardless of size. Regardless, care must be taken to protect the surface as with any art work.
